5 Ways to Side Hustle in 2018

how to side-hustle

Whether you work full-time, part-time, or stay at home with kids most wonder how to make a little extra money on the side doing something they enjoy. There are so many great options from selling your own art, flipping thrifty finds, or using an app to deliver packages. For me, working with a single person income can be challenging at times but definitely doable! See my top 5 ways to make extra income in 2018 (aka the art of the side-hustle).

1. Poshmark and resale flipping

Having been on Poshmark for almost a year I have realized there are two types of “poshers” – those who sell their own clothes for a profit and those who sell other people’s clothes for a profit. I have tried both. The latter is is what I like to call, “resale flipping.” Basically buy low and sell high. An example of resale flipping would be to go into Goodwill, find a popular anthropologie sweater for $3 in great condition and then sell it on Poshmark for a major profit. This of course takes time finding the items, photographing, posting, and then fielding questions about the item. When it eventually sells just make sure you are profiting from your time and energy! For anyone considering Poshmark start with items from your own personal closet and then you can take it onto the flip stage!
2. Selling Handmade items on Etsy
I have been an Etsy seller for about 3 years now. When the choker trend was back I knew I could make my own for half the cost of what they were selling in stores. I received some compliments on them and decided to start my own store selling the chokers. That snowballed into other jewelry making like earrings and bracelets. My good friend, Cindy frequents Florida a few times a year and decieded to turn her love of seashells into art. Check out her Etsy shop, Eat Sleep Shell.
3. Deliver items through Amazon Flex and earn $18-$22/hour
I recently heard about this through my friend who works at Amazon. In select cities, you can deliver Amazon Now packages in your own vehicle, on your own time, and make $18.00-$25.00 an hour.  You choose your hours and deliver packages or Amazon Now orders. Just download the app and it links with your Amazon account. You do have to go through a background check that can take a few days. I haven’t personally done this but I have read reviews online and while mixed, couldn’t hurt to try!
4. Taking Surveys for Cash
After applying to different market research companies in my town,  I was invited to give my opinion on multi-snack packs – think Goldfish, Pirate’s Booty (which we use frequently). Just google focus groups or market research companies. For an hour or even a few minutes of your time you can get paid for your opinion. Popular bloggers get paid for their opinion all the time but this is for anyone – they do not care about your instagram follower count!
5. Real Estate
This option requires more up-front investment but I do know a few people who have full-time jobs and sell real estate on the side. You can always start as a leasing agent and work your way up.
